How and why it will happen
Artificial General Intelligence is as much data science as it is about the processes that operate over data. We look into why FactEngine can make a bold prediction that AGI will be with us by close-of-business next year in what will be equal part a leap of faith and quite frightful at the same time.
The Stage is Set
With the advent of large language models, there have been a lot of murmurings about artificial general intelligence and the almost certain possibility of it happening relatively soon. By “happen,” I mean that people are going to invent artificial general intelligence based on the use of large language models and extrapolation of their current functionality.
Recently, there has been a significant increase in the number of tokens that can be sent to a large language model, from thousands to billions of tokens. This corresponds to the amount of random access memory (RAM) an artificial general intelligence has to work with for localized memory used in its current cognitive functions. Though there have been papers published on this topic, nothing has been released to the public yet.
The change in the architecture of large language models is radical, moving towards a design akin to computer systems with localized random access memory and on top of…
