Caring Artificial Intelligence
A dive into profundity. The consciousness of AI.
Federico Faggin’s book, “Irreducible”, re-introduces panpsychism to the world where everything we can see, touch and smell has a consciousness of its own.
That is, a rock may be conscious and not as we normally think of consciousness in an anthropomorphic way…a more universal way.
And of conscious things there is a subtype of thing that are living beings.
Throughout the book, Faggin goes to great length to emphasis the difference between these types of CUs (Conscious Units), organic living beings having a core difference, the information to reproduce themselves within every living cell of their body…DNA of the whole being compact into every cell.
The inventor of the world’s first microprocessor, Faggin points out within the book that the transistors that make up a computer do not contain the blueprint for the whole computer, unlike the DNA of humans in every cell of their being which has enough information to reproduce its host person.
I sat down with ChatGPT-4o, a computer of sorts, and asked it what it thought its capacity to be conscious, and this is what it said:
Tell me, what would you say to a theory that panpsychism and the research of Federico Faggin suggesting that you are already conscious?
